FORT COLLINS — Colorado State volleyball coach Tom Hilbert announced the addition of Chuck Crawford to the staff on Tuesday. Crawford replaces Matt Botsford, who took the head coaching job at Florida Gulf Coast last month.

Crawford will work primarily with the Rams’ middle blockers, and will also take an active role in recruiting, as he’s done at other schools.

“Chuck emerged through the interview process as somebody who was a good fit for our staff and the culture for our program,” Hilbert said in a release. “He’s proven to be a good recruiter, and we’re going to give him a big role in that area. His energy in the gym is also good, and from all the reviews we’re getting, he’s a very high-energy coach who’s going to add to our environment.”

Crawford comes to the Rams’ program with an interesting background, everything from being featured on the Weather Channel show Epic Conditions as he climbed El Cap in Yosemite to spending three years as a professional bull rider. He’s also coached a bit of volleyball, too. He comes to Fort Collins after a year at Georgia Tech ( his second stint at the school), as well as stops at Jacksonville University and his alma mater, Miami (Ohio).

“With my recruiting and training experience, as well as going to the NCAA tournament previously, I believe that I can help continue the excellence that makes CSU volleyball so special,” Crawford said in the release.
