FORT COLLINS — Not only was Deedra Foss’ performance last week the best in the Mountain West, it was deemed tops in the country.

On Tuesday, the AVCA named Colorado State’s senior setter the national player of the week, just the seventh time a Ram has earned the honor.

The senior from McKenna, Wash., guided the No. 9 Rams to a pair of sweeps, averaging 13.3 assists, 1.0 kills and 1.17 blocks per set as the team improved to 28-2 on the season, 16-1 in MW play to clinch the conference title and a 20th straight berth into the NCAA Tournament.

“That’s pretty awesome being that my senior year, getting Mountain West player and national player … That’s something I never could have imagined,” Foss said. “To get that my senior year, last week, is pretty awesome and it’s such an honor.”

Those numbers helped move the setter up in the national rankings, as the 2013 honorable mention All-American’s 11.75 assists per set now rank third nationally.

Foss is the first Ram to win the national award since middle blocker Megan Plourde in Sept. of 2012. She becomes the third setter at the school to earn it, joining Melissa Courtney (2004) and Allison Peckham (2001).

For her career, Foss ranks fifth at the school (and tops since the scoring changed in 2008) with 4,668 assists with at least two more matches remaining, including Wednesday’s regular-season finale at Moby Arena against Wyoming (7 p.m.).

Only one other player in the Mountain West has earned the national weekly award this season, New Mexico opposite hitter Chantale Riddle.
