No. 7 CSU volleyball team returns to Moby Arena

Yes, the CSU volleyball team does still play matches at Moby Arena.

It just doesn’t seem that way after the Rams spent most of September on the road.

That changes at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, when No. 7 Colorado State University hosts UNLV in its first match at Moby Arena since Sept. 9.

It’s a match that looks much tougher now then it did at the start of the season.

UNLV (13-3, 1-0 Mountain West) has won six straight matches. The Rebels are 8-1 away from home, and their only losses are two against Cal State Northridge, a team receiving top-25 votes, and No. 4 Washington.

“They’re error percentage is really low, and they’re playing with their maturity,” CSU coach Tom Hilbert said. “Look at what they’ve done with their schedule. They look like a very good team.”

The Rebels were picked to finish seventh in the MW preseason poll. They are holding opponents to a .130 hitting percentage, second in the MW, and lead the conference with 3.16 blocks per set and 14.98 digs per set.

The Rams (14-1, 2-0 MW) played their last eight matches away from home, tied for the longest stretch under Hilbert. CSU went 8-0 to extend its streak to 28 consecutive regular-season matches won outside of Fort Collins.

After UNLV, CSU will host San Diego State at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, in the annual “orange-out” match. The Aztecs were the only team to beat the Rams in the regular season in 2013.
