Coach Bobo announces graduate transfer from Rice

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State head football coach Mike Bobo announced today that former Rice cornerback V.J. Banks will join the Rams' program as a graduate transfer. Banks will enroll in graduate school at Colorado State and will be eligible to play for the 2018 season with one season remaining.

Banks started two games in 2017 for the Rice Owls before a leg injury forced him to miss the rest of the regular season. As a junior, Banks made 11 starts and recorded 37 tackles to go along with an interception and a forced fumble.

Overall, Banks has 36 games of college experience as a member of the Owls. The 6-foot-1 corner has totaled 75 tackles, two interceptions and seven passes defended in his career.

He also was honored for his accomplishments off the field, being listed on the 2016 Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, awarded to student-athletes that have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Banks was a standout at Travis B. Bryan High School in Bryan, Texas, earning first-team All-District 14-5A honors as a senior.

Banks will join a CSU cornerback corps that includes returning letterwinners Anthony Hawkins and Darius Campbell.
