Work on the new student teaching brewery in the Lory Student Center is progressing nicely this summer.

It is expected to provide students in CSU’s Fermentation Science and Technology program hands-on experience with a state-of-the-art brewing system.

After the interior walls and tiled floor were finished in the space adjacent to the Ramskeller, the beautiful copper-clad brewing tanks donated and delivered by Molson Coors in December were ready to be moved in. U.S. Engineering volunteered a crew to carefully set the tanks upright and into place on July 13. The tanks’ manufacturer, Newlands Systems Inc. (NSI), is providing assistance getting the whole system piped together in time for the facility’s fall 2017 opening.

A group effort

In addition to Molson Coors and NSI, Malisko Engineering has been a major provider of goods and services to the project, in addition to a host of other donors, including Rockwell Automation, Atlas Copco North America LLC, Argelith Tiles, Corosys Kellerworks, Georg Fischer/GF Piping Systems, Kathinka Engineering, NFT Automation, Panduit, Pentair/Hoffman, Rexel, and Spectrum Controls. The in-kind gifts are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars and are combining to create a world-class teaching facility.

“This is the most sophisticated brewing system on any college campus, and is even rare in the industry for its size,” said Jeff Callaway, associate director of the Fermentation Science and Technology Program in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition. “It’s through partnerships like these that we can expose our students to industry standards and give them the best education possible.”
