At one point Tuesday, Oct. 7, it looked extremely unlikely the CSU volleyball team could sweep Wyoming.

The Rams trailed 12-3 early in the second set as Wyoming dominated. But a timeout from coach Tom Hilbert settled things down and Colorado State raced back to win the set and eventually sweep Wyoming on the road 25-16, 25-21, 25-23.

“We called our second timeout and were passing terribly. It wasn’t anything that was said because I told our team we need to settle down and start passing the ball because we’re probably going to lose this set, but we need to get some momentum back,” Hilbert said of the largest comeback in a set this season. “Next thing you know, we’re tied at 15. They were very composed the entire time. We compete at times so well that I’m blown away by it.”

The win moves No. 7 CSU to 17-1 overall and 5-0 in Mountain West play ahead of its home match at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, against Fresno State.

On Tuesday, the offense was clicking as the Rams hit .343 for the match on the way to their 12th win in a row. Senior middle blocker Kelsey Snider had a season-high 15 kills and hit .571. Freshman Jasmine Hanna had 14 kills on .393 hitting. Dri Culbert chipped in eight kills, and Acacia Andrews added seven.

“We had Jasmine Hanna on their shorter setter and (setter) Deedra (Foss) was using that matchup all night,” Hilbert said. “(Foss) knew when to go to the middle (blockers) because they were getting kills and she made good choices on when to set them.”

Wyoming (13-5, 2-3 MW) was led by eight kills each from Laura Beach and Kayla Slofkiss. Wyoming hit just .167 for the match.

The win extends CSU’s win streak in true road matches to 24, and the Rams have won 29 consecutive regular season matches at road or neutral sites.
