Welcome to Colorado's Conservation Data Explorer (CODEX) — a one stop shop for synthesizing conservation data from the Colorado Natural Heritage Program (CNHP), Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), Bird Conservancy of the Rockies, US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), NatureServe, and many other sources.

  • Users can submit project areas for review, obtain comprehensive conservation planning information, make maps, and run analyses.

  • CODEX provides conservation information on biological diversity, protected lands, hydrology and other natural resources for planning purposes and also allows users to screen a project area for potential impacts to threatened, endangered, and special concern species and their habitats.

  • CODEX is a partnership that draws upon expertise in wildlife and information management from CNHP, CPW, NatureServe and many of our other partners.

CODEX Project Analysis and Reports: In order to submit projects for review, users are required to register and login. To register as a new user, click on ‘Create new account’ above. After logging in, click on the 'Map' tab and use the 'Create Project' or 'ROI Report' function button to create and submit a project for review (see CODEX User Guide here for detailed help).

Project Report: This review evaluates known occurrences and potential occurrences for regulatory and other species of concern from CNHP, CPW, and our partners, protected lands and land management status from COMaP, special areas information, wetlands data, maps, along with other elements of conservation interest that may be present within the vicinity of the project site.

Return on Investment Report: CODEX allows users to calculate the estimated annual benefit in dollars of conserved ecosystem services by ecosystem type within the project area.
